Gardens by the Bay is a must-visit attraction for families with children who love art, culture, and history. This award-winning park is home to various gardens, Supertrees, and other attractions.
Gardens by the Bay story
In the 1960s, then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew introduced the “Garden City” vision to transform Singapore into a city with abundant lush greenery and a clean environment to improve the quality of life in the city. This policy continues today with the next phase: “City in a Garden”. Gardens by the Bay is part of this initiative.
In 2006, an international competition took place to seek design ideas for Gardens by the Bay. The winners were Grant Associates for Bay South and Gustafson Porter for Bay East, both from the UK. Gardens by the Bay was opened in 2012.
Built on reclaimed land, the park uses various green technologies to conserve water and energy. They collect rainwater to water the plants, use solar panels for energy, and even turn food waste into compost. Find out more on their website.
