Ses forces sont mobilis\u00e9es en Europe, o\u00f9 les troupes affrontent la Premi\u00e8re Guerre Mondiale.<br>Face \u00e0 la mont\u00e9e en puissance du Japon, l\u2019Angleterre d\u00e9cide d\u00e8s 1918 de construire une flotte navale \u00e0 Sembawang, dans le d\u00e9troit de Johor, afin de prot\u00e9ger la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1935, elle renforce la d\u00e9fense militaire au nord et au sud de l\u2019\u00eele. Pour prot\u00e9ger le port de Keppel, elle installe une artillerie \u00e0 Labrador. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jusque-l\u00e0, Singapour \u00e9tait consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une forteresse difficile \u00e0 prendre. Pourtant les Japonais parviennent \u00e0 prendre le contr\u00f4le de l\u2019\u00eele en moins de 15 jours, le 15 f\u00e9vrier 1942.<br>Sur l\u2019ordre du premier ministre anglais William Churchill, toutes les armes sont d\u00e9truites pour ne pas tomber aux mains de l\u2019ennemi (\u00ab&nbsp;the fortress guns should all be destroyed and rendered unusable\u2026&nbsp;\u00bb). Dans le m\u00eame temps, une partie des installations sont d\u00e9truites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans le parc, vous d\u00e9couvrirez les vestiges des constuctions militaires et vous en apprendrez davantage sur l\u2019\u00e9poque de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale \u00e0 Singapour, gr\u00e2ce aux panneaux explicatifs install\u00e9s \u00e0 proximit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keppel Bay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e8s le 13e si\u00e8cle, les navires qui naviguent du d\u00e9troit de Malacca jusqu\u2019au sud de la Chine utilisent le&nbsp;canal de Keppel Bay comme passage<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est donc naturellement que les Anglais choisissent Keppel Bay pour y installer les premiers docks de Singapour.<br>Le premier est construit en 1859 par le capitaine William Cloughton. Les autres sont b\u00e2tis plus tard, dans les ann\u00e9es 1900. Le d\u00e9veloppement des docks atteint son apog\u00e9e en 1913, avec l\u2019inauguration du \u00ab&nbsp;King\u2019s Dock&nbsp;\u00bb, le deuxi\u00e8me plus grand dock du monde. Un chantier colossal&nbsp;: 4,5 ans de travaux et plus de 203 000 tonnes de b\u00e9ton utilis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le port, qui s\u2019appelait \u2018New Harbour\u2019, est renomm\u00e9 \u00ab&nbsp;Keppel Harbour&nbsp;\u00bb en 1900 en hommage \u00e0 l\u2019amiral Keppel, une figure militaire qui notamment a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 chasser les pirates du d\u00e9troit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui les docks ont \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9s par des condominiums et un port de plaisance.
